The Club

Cardiff Model Boat Club, established during the late 1800’s, was renamed Cardiff Marine Modellers in the early 90’s to accommodate the growing diversity of marine craft and modern technology which has developed over the past 100 years. With two World Wars and numerous conflicts across the globe, the variations of marine craft has expanded greatly to those early days. Yachts, Steam Launches, Warships, Submarines, Hovercrafts, Barges, Ocean Liners, Jet Ski’s, Hydroplanes the list is endless.

CARDIFF MARINE MODELLERS objectives are as its mission statement says:

To encourage and promote the interest of Designing, Building and Sailing any form of marine craft either Static, Sail, or powered by Electric or Steam and controlled by the use of Radio.

To promote meetings, social functions, attend and/or host shows/displays to the advancement of the Club

To attract and encourage interested members of the public in becoming an active member.

Meeting Place

CARDIFF MARINE MODELLERS meet once a month at the Pentwyn Social Club, which is off the A48M (Eastern Avenue) taking the Pentwyn exit.

MEETINGS are on the third Tuesday of the month, at 7.30 p.m., winter only.

TALKS are given by members on a variety of subjects to do with marine modelling.

SAILING is at Roath Park Lake, on Saturday and Sunday, from approx. midday until dusk, and during the summer, on Wednesday evenings from approx. 5 p.m. onwards.

Winter sailing is on the East side of the lake adjacent to the picnic table.

Summer sailing is on the West side of the lake, also by picnic tables. This area is known as the old paddling pool, and there is a large concrete area giving good access to the water. During the summer an area of water adjacent to the concrete area is sectioned off with buoys and children who are not members of the club may have the use of club boats, for which there is no charge.

PLEASE NOTE that internal combustion powered models are not allowed by the park authorities.
